Minister's Message

As Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation, I extend best wishes to Team Newfoundland and Labrador as you prepare for the upcoming 2011 Canada Winter Games in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Newfoundland and Labrador has proudly participated in the Canada Games Program for more than 40 years. In 2011, we will send a contingent of 14 teams, including more than 275 athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff to represent this province in 13 sports.

I thank the many parents and volunteers for their tireless efforts in helping our athletes develop their talents and skills. Without your support, none of this would be possible. Our athletes must also be commended for their dedication to excellence as they prepare and train to compete in this top amateur sporting event.

The Provincial Government is committed to providing opportunities for all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to excel to the highest level of their abilities through sport development. I have no doubt Team Newfoundland and Labrador’s participation in the 2011 Games will be an exciting and memorable experience for all involved. Good luck to all!
