The exhibit tells the story of the Vikings and the Skraelings through artifacts, photography, models, artists renderings and maps. An audio presentation, complete with soundscapes will lead the visitor through the exhibit. All interpretation is presented in English and French. |

The exhibit is custom built. All the necessary audio-visual equipment and graphics will be included in the travelling exhibit. Available for borrowing: November 2000 - October 2003 Available for twelve weeks at each venue. Please see proposed tour schedule. $15,000 - Exhibit Loan Fee $10,000 - All costs associated with the travel of a Nordic curator and a preparator. Plus the cost of exhibit shipping and insurance. Support is being sought from the Museum Assistance Program of Canadian Heritage towards these costs. The borrower will be responsible for insurance costs. Indemnification of the collection and exhibit materials will be requested from the Department of Canadian Heritage. High security will be necessary for this exhibit. The requirements for security precautions will be detailed in the exhibit contract. Low light levels, controlled and monitored temperature and humidity. Requirements will be detailed in the exhibit contract. Borrowing institutions will be asked to submit a completed facilities report, including a floorplan of the proposed exhibit space, subject to review, prior to confirmation of a booking. The exhibit will be delivered at the host venue 1 week prior to the opening date. A curator and a preparator will accompany the exhibit at each venue to supervise installation. Outgoing condition reports, dismantling, and packing will require 1 week. A bilingual, souvenir catalogue approximately 50 pages in length, with colour illustrations and photographs is planned for retail sale. Press releases, posters and brochures will be provided free of charge. Two copies of the souvenir catalogue will be provided free of charge. A third party will be developing related products for sale in Newfoundland venues. Arrangements can be discussed to sell these products through the borrowing institution's shop. |
