Temporary
Closure
Background
The Sports Archives of Newfoundland and Labrador (SANL) is part of The Provincial Archives of Newfoundland
and Labrador. Its mandate is to collect, preserve, arrange
and describe materials relating to professional and amateur sporting
activities in Newfoundland and Labrador. The archives will also
make available for public use, textual materials, photographs,
sound recordings, and related archival and printed matter that
document the history of sport in this province.
From 1974 until his death in 1991, Frank Graham served as the
Volunteer Sports Archivist, accumulating an extensive variety
of sports history and memorabilia. The archives was closed following
his death, but under the impetus of Gail Roberts, then Chair of
the Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Hall of Fame Committee, organization
of the material recommenced with funding from the Canadian
Council of Archives (CCA).
Archival Holdings
The archives consists of personal and business correspondence,
scrapbooks, over 5,000 photographs relating to Newfoundland and
Labrador sports and sports personalities, clippings documenting
