The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador proclaimed the access provisions of the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (ATIPPA) on January 17, 2005. The new Act replaces the Freedom of Information Act. It applies to all public bodies (defined in the Act), including government departments, agencies, health boards, school boards and municipalities.
Access to Information through ATIPPA is the responsibility of the Department of Justice. Please visit the Department of Justice Web Site for additional information on this program area.
The Red Tape Reduction initiative will reduce administrative and regulatory inefficiencies while maintaining high standards, a level playing field for businesses, and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of government services to its citizens. It will not compromise important public objectives such as protection of the environment, health and safety, and consumer and public protection, nor will it compromise government's internal controls and due diligence.
Red Tape can include legislation, regulations, fees, permits, approvals, licenses, standards, paperwork, processing time, guidelines, filing and certification requirements, reporting, investigation, inspection and enforcement practices, and procedures.
The Red Tape Initiative is the responsibility of the Department of Business. Please visit the Department of Business Web Site for additional information on this program area.
