  The Commissariat House
The Commissariat House Just how does an army march on its stomach? Find out when you visit one of the oldest buildings in the province, built especially by the Commissariat to supply the city’s garrison.

Ask the clerks and serving maids of the 1830s what was involved in keeping the men supplied with everything from bread to boots.

Wander through offices which look like something out of Dickens and the private apartment of the Assistant Commissary General where Jane Austen would probably have felt right at home.

A newly developed exhibit in the stable on site tells you how it all came about.
