This program is responsible for the development, planning, coordination and implementation of a new tourism signage system for the province. The initiative once fully developed will manage the new sign program recommended and approved for tourism operators in the province. Current research and development has identified the Tourist-Oriented Directional Signage (TODS) as the most universally-accepted and widely-used approach for integrating public and private tourist services and attractions signage into the highway system.
Based on strategic positioning, universality and consistency, the approach makes it easier for travellers to locate tourist attractions and activities as well as essential services such as food, accommodations and fuel. This signage system is the primary highway signage system used throughout Canada, the United States and most international jurisdictions.
